WEICH /vaɪ̯ç/ (German for “soft”) is a platform and event series for ambient music, experimental art, and queer community in Berlin.

WEICH started in 2021 with the idea of creating a space where people could slow down, listen, experiment, and connect. The events bring together musicians and artists from different practices, with a focus on collaboration, openness, and making room for different ways of being and creating. The music moves between ambient, experimental electronics, acoustic instruments, spoken word, broken beats, and improvised soundscapes. Artists are invited to explore new textures, combinations, and directions, often working with instruments, effects, and approaches that are outside their usual practice.

WEICH encourages artists based in Berlin’s ambient and experimental music scene to meet, collaborate, and cross into other mediums. The space itself is an important part of the experience. We bring together sound, visuals, set design, performance, scent, food, and soft, tactile spaces.

Softness can be a form of resistance: a moment to let go of tension, to be less guarded, and to make space for connection. We aims to create an environment that feels welcoming and safe, particularly within Berlin’s queer and experimental art scene, while questioning some of the norms and structures that shape those spaces.

WEICH began at Kwia in November 2021 and is now based at 90Mil in Berlin. So far, the collective has curated more than 25 events, bringing together over 100 artists across music, dance, food, set design, performance, and live visuals. We are preparing our first record release coming this November and compiling tracks from musiciens from the community.

WEICH is about making space: for sound, experimentation, softness, and each other.
