WEICH /vaɪ̯ç/ (English: soft) is a femme led platform that stands for interdisciplinary art, inclusion and diversity amongst the experimental queer art-scene in Berlin. Our mission is to uphold and fortify the sense of community within the ambient and experimental music sphere in Berlin. Central to our ethos is the creation of an innovative and safe space, one that challenges heteronormative structures and norms, and nurtures an environment for exploration and play—whether it’s with musical instruments, creative collaboration, the fusion of artistic practices or even workshops to engage with the public.
We actively encourage local artists within Berlin’s burgeoning ambient music scene to come together, collaborate, and push the boundaries of their work across different mediums and artistic directions. Weich events are immersive experiences, designed to engage all the senses. These gatherings incorporate a harmonious interplay between different sensory elements: sound, visuals, set design, performances, smells, food.
As the name of the event series explains (Weich = ‘soft’ in German), it is about softness or radical softness: melting down into the space onto comfortable carpets with soft and textured sounds. With relaxation of the senses (and the amygdala) at the forefront after 2 years of tensions and worries, WEICH creates a safe space in which to connect and let go simultaneously. Local artists of the growing ambient music scene in Berlin are encouraged to collaborate together, while exploring new directions and mediums.
The music explores different directions, created using instruments such as on modular synths, acoustic instruments, building soundscapes amidst, spoken word and broken beats. The artists involved are creating new textures, sometimes through improvised shows with different elements and effects that are unique to their practice.
Weich started at Kwia in November 2021 and is now located at 90Mil in Berlin. To date, Weich Collective has proudly curated over 14 events across Berlin, featuring the creative contributions of more than 70 unique artists, including musicians, dancers, culinary artists, set designers, and live visuals experts. Our collective efforts aim to enrich and enliven the ever-evolving landscape of Berlin’s experimental art and music scene.
